  • Thank you Robert.  I thought that was the direction I would have to go.  I really appreciate your help!

  • SWMM5 does not have a complete bridge section so you need to approximate the bridge with single elements:

    1. Culverts and/or separate transects for the various bridge openings,

    2. The piers are not explicitly modeled but the pier losses can be simulated with Fixed loss coefficients

    3. The Bridge itself can be a weir or an transverse link.

  • I am a new SWMM user.  I have used HEC-1, HEC-2, HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS from the Corps of Engineers.  I am confused about the best way (or any way for that matter) to model deck/girder bridges in SWMM, including allowances for piers, etc.  The basin we are modeling has both urban and rural aspects, including storm sewer systems and natural channel sections with bridge crossings.  My research to date indicates I would have to model the bridge crossings with HEC-RAS or some other method, then input the crossing into SWMM as a culvert and attempt to approximate the losses through the opening.  Is there a better way??
