ArcGIS data into SWMM

I want to import ArcGIS data into SWMM. How can I do this? If possible I want to include SWMM into ArcGIS as add-in, any help?

    I am having some issues in importing a catchement shapefiles from ArcGIS 10.5.1 to SWMM5 using inppins.I have the DEM of my study Area, Please can anyone tell me what are the proper ways that I should follow to make this process possible. Aso, I want to make use of the elevation data too, Is that possible?

    This problem have been reported before, because the location in the MW web-site is not easy to access / intuitive. 

    The official repositories of the application are now the MW web-site and the official web-site of the application. I recommend you not to download the software from other locations...

  • Hello everyone, I would like to ask about inp.PINS. I have modelled drainage networks of Bangalore city  in SWMM .  I have the  flood volumes at those  nodes which are flooding after running the SWMM model. I also have the DEM of the city generated in ArcGIS. With this, how to do the flood plain mapping using the ins.PINS software. Is there any manual available for the software which says the step by step procedure? . Please help me.

  • Hello to everybody. I am a PhD student. My research is on urban drainage and I have all my data in .shp files. I use ArchMap 10.1 and I classified my study area in different sub-catchments of same characteristics. Each type of subcatcments are in different layer-.shp file. This makes very easy, at least in ArchGIS, to handle the data and to apply also the possible LIDs. However, when I use inpPINS to create the .inp file for SWMM, I cannot create one file including all the types of subcatchments. Instead, I can create different .inp file for each subcatchment type. I understand that I have to combine all my subcatchments into one .shp file, as well as all the links into one .shp file, and so on. But, using the inpPINS tools makes also very easy to assign the different properties at each type of subcatchment, however, it created different .inp files – SWMM projects.

    Hope I made you understand my problem, do you have any suggestion to this issue?

    • Although the question is old enough, it may help someone in future. GeoSWMM is a SWMM tool developed over ArcMap as a plugin. The full modeling is identical with SWMM5. You can create a complete swmm model over ArcMap using GeoSWMM by importing data from shape files for subcatchments, nodes and links. You can even run the simulation inside ArcMap and analyze results. Moreover, you can export inp fie from the model that is fully compatible with SWMM 5.0.22.  

    • @Pan Ka    Hello. I don't know if I get You right, but I made the same drainage model. To combine all of subcatchments into one shp file try to use "Merge" tool in ArcMap. In this tool you have to point out all of subchatments layers in your geodatabase (input datasets). Make sure that you choose only polygons shp (not points or polylines). If use this tool, You will get one shp layer with all subcatchments, but:
      all subcatchments will be in the same colour, but  their datas will be differents.

      This creates shp file you could use to make inp file with inp.PINS

      • Thanks Michael B for your reply. Your process seems very promising. Although the subcatchments become all one color, which makes difficult to distinguish the different types however, as long as I understood (I am very fresher in the field) in SWMM they all have one colour anyway. What is more, the process is automated in ArchGIS so, I expect not much of mistakes. I will try all these after two weeks since I have some exams to follow now. So, I will let you know the results after.
