The relationship between the upstream and downstream node invert and offset elevations, the input conduit length and the slope used in the SWMM 5 simulation are shown in Figure 1.

    1. 1.       Let          E1 = Upstream Link Offset + Upstream Node Invert Elevation

                                     E2 = Downstream Link Offset + Downstream Node Invert Elevation

     

    1. 2.       Compute the Link Drop = | E1 – E2 |

     

    1. 3.       Check on the Drop compared to the Minimum Drop = if the Drop is less than the Minimum Drop then the Drop is set equal to the Minimum Drop

     

    1. 4.       The Drop cannot exceed the User Input Length – if it is then the Slope = Drop / Length

     

    1. 5.       The Slope equals the Drop over the Horizontal Distance if the Drop is less than the Length – this is the

     

     

     

    1. 6.       If E2 > E1 then the Pipe is Adverse and the Slope is Negative
