10,000+ subcatchments to be assigned with outlets

Hi experts,

I am to assign outlet to some 10,000 sub catchments, manually doing it doesn't seem professional.

Luckily, name of subcatchment is same name of junction (outlet)

i.e.

Subcatcment              Junction

177119                      177119

177123                      177123

177126                      177126

263803                      263803

263806                      263806

These are not in particular sequence but name of subcatchment is always same as of junction.

  • Thanks Rui for your time and efforts to go through this project,

    By using GIS functions and adding fields in attribute files, the sub catchments are now linked with their appropriate outlets. 

    Also, rather than, loading all hydrologic and hydraulic parameters (from shp files), I tried one by one and kept running Make.inp and overwriting the same .inp file - it did the job.

    Now, fixing the missing data is becoming difficult - as discussed above.

    And, exploring GIS to fix the missing data (upstream/downstream elevation of pipes) by interpolation as you advised.

    I would discuss in the next meeting if this project could be completed with your collaboration and by taking advantage of your research and accomplishments.

    It really what I needed - without reading the manual, I was trying each option in the swmm to see if there is way to export the data in excel format.

    However, data being too large, excel simply says sorry with this message (This message can appear if:
    You are trying to open a file that contains more than 65,536 rows or 256 columns. To fix this problem, open the source file in a text editor such as Microsoft Word. Save the source file as several smaller files that conform to this row and column limit, and then open the smaller files in Excel. If the source data cannot be opened in a text editor, try importing the data into Microsoft Access, and then exporting subsets of the data from Access to Excel.
    You are trying to paste tab-delimited data into an area that is too small. To fix this problem, select an area in the worksheet large enough to accommodate every delimited item.
    Notes
    You can not configure Excel to exceed the limit of 65,536 rows and 256 columns.
    By default, Excel places three worksheets in a workbook file. Each worksheet can contain 65,536 rows and 256 columns of data, and workbooks can contain more than three worksheets if your computer has enough memory to support the additional data.)

    I tried one more add-on by replacing excel with access. But it says unrecognized data format. phewww

    Entering the data in SWMM is made pretty easy with Dr. Rui's inp.PINS (straight from ArcGIS), but adjusting missing data would be simpler in MS Excel directly from SWMM environment.
