Length of Overland flow

Hi Everyone,

I am simulating runoff from an ungauged  area, hence cannot calibrate my model for width of sub-catchment.

In case we are to design drainage system for a newly developed site then what length of overland flow should be considered.

As its generally ranges from 100-300 m, I have arbitrary chosen a length of 115 m for overland flow.

Whether it is a right approach, or is there any other method to deal with such cases ?

  • Thanx for the reply.

  • A few ways to estimate the width parameter:

    1. Width = The Square Root of the Area in Square Meters,

    2. Width = The Area / Overland Path Length in Meters
