Steady-state problem

Hello,

I have just started using SWMM5 and I am having troubles trying to run a steady-state simulation. If I understood correctly, the 'steady-state' option only has to do with the conduit routing method. The simulator still needs a user-defined period of time for the simulation and sticks to it even though steady-state is not reached (outflow different from inflow). Is it possible to run a proper steady-state simulation without re-running the program until steady results are obtained?

For the inflow, I use a nodal inflow with a constant flow rate (using a baseline value equal to the constant flow rate and an empty time series for the temporal variations).

Sorry about my English and thanks in advance for your replies !

  • Yes, that would be a good idea.  Here is how it works if you are interested

How the Steady State option works in H2OMap SWMM:

    1.       Use Keep, a Time Step lengthening of 10 seconds, a time step of 60 seconds and iterations as shown in Bullet 1
    2.      Use the Steady State Option of Skip Steady State Period when the total inflow between time step is less than 0.05 cfs or the equivalent in lps or cms units
    3.      A time step of 10 seconds will be used during Wet Weather, a time step of 60 seconds will be used during the transition between dry and wet weather or Bullet 3
    4.      You should be able to speed up your by a factor of 10 to 2o to 1 depending on the frequency of rainfall  or Bullet 4
    5.     This was 10 year simulation using the dynamic wave option of SWMM 5

    • Ok, great, I will try this. Thank you !

  • Hi, Do you mean the Steady Flow routing or Skip Steady Periods option

    • Hi, thanks for your reply.

I meant the routing model ! Should I try the skip steady periods option?
