SWMM 5.0 Maximum Nodes

I am trying to figure-out what is the maximum number of nodes that a SWMM5.0 model can handle? I have a highly urban watershed of about 25000 ac and I am wondering if it is feasible to use SWMM 5.0 or any SWMM products. I don't have GIS info of all storm conveyance system in the watershed.

  • Hi,

I made a one million node model last year in SWMM 5 and it both loads and runs in SWMM 5.  I also imported it and ran it in InfoSWMM and H2OMap SWMM and they both handled it.,  I did have problems with our Google Earth connection.

Information on the million node and link model:

    1. 1.      The SWMM 5 model has 1 million nodes and links
    2. 2.     The import to InfoSWMM took more than one hour but I found out I was using 95 percent of my 8 GB RAM
      1. a.     I got rid of most of my open programs and with 6 GB free the import of the million nodes took only 15 minutes
      2. b.     You can only copy and paste 1,000,000 rows to Excel from a DB Table
      3. c.     I updated all node coordinates using Excel and the Rand function but it took about 15 minutes to update the map
      4. d.    You can see a noticeable slowness in Arc Map when you have so many nodes, If I pan around the model you can see the refresh, this was not apparent with 100,000 nodes
      5. e.     New View works for 1 million nodes and links but it fails once it goes to Google Earth
      6. f.       I can use the DB Editor without any problem
      7. g.     The ISDB folder is 2.5 GB  and the MAP is 400 MB
      8. h.    It takes about 5 minutes to load3293144206?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024
